Ithaca Stringed Instruments

Ithaca Stringed Instruments (ISI), established by Eric Aceto, has been creating custom guitars and bowed string instruments for over four decades for a worldwide clientele, including three multi–Grammy Award winners.

Renowned for his pioneering work on extended-range acoustic and electric bowed instruments, Eric Aceto is also known for the acclaimed Oneida line of acoustic-electric guitars, co-designed with famed luthier Daniel S. Hoffman. ISI builds fine instruments, meticulously handcrafted from premium, aged tonewoods. Careful attention to instrument design—using a proportional system based on string length—results in superior balance, resonance, and playability. Each instrument is custom-tailored with neck style, pickups, and preamps to perfectly match the artist’s specific requirements.

ISI offers a wide range of custom bowed and plucked instruments, including 4-, 5-, and 6-string violin family instruments; the elegant Oneida Jazz Guitar; Parlor models; and the distinctive A-style and Florentine mandolin designs. Each piece is individually crafted, with options for custom inlays, decorative carvings, and personalized touches that make every instrument a unique work of art.

At the heart of ISI’s amplified bowed instruments lies the revolutionary Aceto/Violect Pickup System. Developed through years of experimentation, this innovative system uses only the highest-quality bridge wood and strategically positioned dual sensors to deliver unrivaled clarity, response, and natural tone. It transforms the performance experience for professional artists worldwide, consistently earning praise for capturing authentic sound at both subtle and powerful volumes.

ISI takes pride in its collaborative relationships with clients, creating instruments that precisely meet their musical visions and playing styles. Backed by a lifetime warranty, ISI instruments continue to inspire musicians around the world—from celebrated artists like Jean-Luc Ponty, Zach Brock, and Richie Havens to professional and amateur players seeking the highest standards in craftsmanship, tone, and amplification. Whether acoustic or electric, ISI instruments are designed to become lifelong companions in musical expression.
